Get Scouted Scouting CareersRobert Cagle is beaming with pride this week. So are dozens of other National Scouting Report area directors and scouts.
Why?
Four former NSR football prospects will be playing for national championships in the next few days.
Tight end O.J. Howard and offensive linemen Bradley Bozeman and Matt Womack will represent Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship at 7:30 p.m. CT Monday at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. The No. 2 Crimson Tide (13-1), seeking their third national title in five years and fourth in seven years, will face No. 1 Clemson (14-0) on ESPN.
Offensive lineman Jordan Cagle, son of NSR area directors Robert and Susan Cagle, will play for Jacksonville (Ala.) State in the FCS Championship at 11 a.m. CT Saturday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The No. 1 Gamecocks (13-1), seeking their first FCS title, will face four-time defending champion North Dakota State (12-2) on ESPN2.
“I am really proud of those kids,” said Cagle, who along with wife, Susan, scouted and enrolled all four of them with NSR. “It’s a very special opportunity to play on those types of teams and play in those types of games.”
Howard is the only starting player among the NSR alums. The 6-6, 242-pound junior caught 33 passes for 394 yards (11.9 average) this season, including three receptions for 59 yards (19.7 average) in Alabama’s 38-0 shutout of Michigan State in last week’s Cotton Bowl.
A three-time, first-team All-State performer at Autauga Academy in Prattville, Ala., Howard chose Alabama over Florida, Auburn and Southern Cal. He has amassed 64 catches for 923 yards (14.4 average) and two touchdowns during his three-year college career.
Bozeman, a 6-5, 320-pound sophomore, has come off the bench in every game this season. A former first-team All-State selection at Handley High School in Roanoke, Ala., he picked Alabama over Clemson, Auburn and Tennessee. He is expected to be a starter next season.
Womack, a 6-7, 315-pound freshman, has not seen any playing time this season. A former standout at Magnolia Heights School in Senatobia, Miss., he originally signed a financial aid agreement with LSU in August 2014 with the intention of enrolling early. However, after visiting Alabama later that year, he changed his mind and signed with the Crimson Tide in 2015.
Cagle, a 6-3, 270-pound freshman, has appeared in several games for Jacksonville State. A former first-team All-State performer at Mobile (Ala.) Christian School, he chose Jacksonville State over Akron, Indiana State, Middle Tennessee and Presbyterian.
