Get Scouted Scouting CareersSummer vacation was once just that — a vacation. Not any more.
College prospects who are serious about being recruited must create a summer workout plan if they hope to keep up with their competition. Unfortunately, getting into a daily routine is not the easiest thing to do.
After nine months of school, high school athletes are more or less on their own. That’s when one’s true maturity, dedication and work ethic reveal themselves.
At National Scouting Report, we see a big difference in athletes between the end of their freshman year and the start of their senior year. We either get buffed bodies or not. Athletes who work hard have a legitimate shot at the next level. Those who drag behind are rarely at the top of college coaches’ white boards.
Dedicated athletes who work hard every day must not forget one key component to a summer workout plan — rest.
Even though it is necessary to work out through the summer, it is just as important to take time off and allow your body and mind to relax and avoid fatigue and burnout. Consult with a local athletic trainer about how to make the most of your workouts and still give yourself ample downtime.
You have a long road ahead. Be sure that fun is a part of the journey.
