In college athletic recruiting, NSR plays man-to-man

College coaches know that NSR prospects are closely selected and followed

In the world of scouting services, everybody else plays zone. They are limited to what they can do for their clients. Not at NSR. We play man-to-man and zone, giving us a clear advantage for our client-prospects against the athletes they are competing with for athletic scholarship offers.

We call them cubicle counselors — services with “counselors” that sit in cubicles all day long posing as knowledgeable college scouts. But if you don’t scout, if the only reason you get out of your chair is to hit the water cooler, can you be a legit scout? No, no way, negatory.

So, the cubicle counselors are left with only one choice which is to play the game zone-style. They stay in their area, guarding that area. If a prospect comes through they spend a moment with them over the phone and it’s over, done. When that prospect moves on, the cubicle counselor can’t move, can’t follow, can’t watch that prospect from end-to-end. Doesn’t see all the things the prospect is capable of offering college coaches. Why? They never move. Anybody who’s ever played zone in basketball knows that when the ball is across the court, it’s time to chill, relax. The intensity goes down immediately. And, their effectiveness is diminished.

At NSR, we play an aggressive man-to-man style. Our scouts are on the ground watching their prospects during the initial evaluation and throughout their high school athletic careers. We know our prospects personally. We have visited them in their homes, talked to their parents at games and tournaments. We are in it with them. And, unlike the cubicle counselors, when the ball goes to the other side of the court, we are still with our client learning more about them, their needs, their strengths, weaknesses and desires. We see the competitive drive in their eyes and their sweat equity. Because of these one-on-one experiences with our clients, NSR scouts can speak to college coaches in detail about what our prospects bring to the table, what they need to work on and what is truly in their hearts.
