Austin Hays from Spruce Creek High (FL) named NSR male athlete of the day

We at National Scouting Report continue to hear about the incredible athletic performances by client-prospects across the U.S.A.  Austin Hays, an NSR 2013 baseball prospect from Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, FL   Austin led this year’s team offensively to the Florida State 8A Championship, the school’s first 8A (Big  School) Championship since the state began the new classification.  For this achievement, Austin has been selected as our NSR Male Athlete of the Day.

Austin, a 6’0″ 185  pound outfielder, was outstanding at the plate throughout the state playoffs hitting .625.  That lofty figure becomes even more impressive when considering that three of the  pitchers he faced were just drafted on the first day of the Major League Baseball draft.  For the season, Austin led Spruce Creek with 26 RBI and a .363 batting average.  He hit .452 with runners in scoring position.  Austin’s head coach Johnny  Goodrich said, “There is not a fastball Austin can’t hit.”   Assistant Coach Norm Yelverton added, “Austin is a very mature hitter and a clutch hitter. He is a Division I hitter.”

Additionally, Austin was named to the Orlando Sentinel Central Florida Baseball First Team.  Academically, he carries a 4.0 GPA and expects to pursue a degree in Criminology.  In his personal essay to college coaches, Austgin says, “I have worked very hard and have the desire to one day be able to call myself “a college baseball player”.  I love this game because of the discipline that it can teach you along with the memories and friends that are made over the years.  The number of times you fail in this game causes your mental toughness to become greater with every strike or out, but I love the challenge that it brings to me.”  Austin’s NSR scout is Dave Johnson who covers Northcentral Florida.
