NSR Male AOD: Cross country runner Steffen Uhrich from Wauwatosa East High School WI

We are very proud to name Seffen Uhrich from Wauwatosa East High in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, as our Male Athlete of the Day.  The 5’10” harrier carries an impressive 3.69 GPA and has rung up a long list of accomplishments as a runner.  One of Seffen’s coaches, Joe Vitrano, says that, “he is one of the hardest working runners I have coached in my thirty-five years, certainly in-season but, more importantly, during the summer and winter months. In the harsh Wisconsin winters, Steffen faithfully gets his mileage in outdoors. In summer, in addition to playing varsity baseball in June and July, he manages to keep his weekly mileage at a level which allows him to enter August right on schedule. He needs no prompting; he understands and accepts the challenges of his sport, and he loves his running.”  In his essay to college coaches, Steffen says, “Learning to train hard in the off-seasons has taught me how to work hard in other areas of my life. This benefits my grades by forcing me to work hard to achieve them and has taught me the value of helping out around my community. I enjoy doing community service through Key Club at my school. Another valued trait I have learned from cross country and track is leadership. Being one of the top runners on the team, I am looked up to by teammates for advice and guidance. I like being able to be there for my teammates and friends. They listen and respect what I have to say and I have become a leader in other activities.”
