You don’t get a do-over in recruiting

NSR 2015 tennis prospect Lily Ryan from Louisiana makes the most of her NSR promotional opportunities.

High school prospects:  beware of the hype you got last year.  Regardless of which class you will graduate, if coaches took notice of you and sent you a recruiting questionnaire, they are watching this year to see if you are capable of being that same athlete you were touted as a short twelve months ago.

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban is famous for telling his troops that last year’s success means nothing, to put it behind them and to focus on the job at hand.  It’s good advice for every athlete, too, in the high school ranks.  Fade and you could be forgotten.  Build on that success and you can be a college recruit.  Drop your intensity and instantly your stock can fall. Reach new levels of performance and consistency and you could climb white boards.

If you have a deep desire to be a college student-athlete, being recognized by coaches is always your first hurdle.  Coaches don’t go out and find many athletes today, so getting their attention is your priority.  Then, once you are on coaches’ radar screens, you must demonstrate that you an carry forward your potential, grow into a more impactful role, develop into a solid team contributor and post the kind of numbers which will maintain your recruiting momentum.

At NSR, we promote on the best student-athletes to college coaches.  We know what coaches want and need  to see and when our scouts home in on a high school athlete it is because they possess the right stuff.  If an NSR scout contacts you, jump at the chance to be interviewed because it could well change your life.  Getting recruited only happens once in your lifetime.  Make the most of every opportunity.
