2015 NSR soccer star, Sydney Van Steenberge, commits early to Oregon as one of the state’s top players

NSR Oregon scout Coach Craig Stanger announced yesterday that 2015 NSR soccer prospect Sydney Van Steenberge, committed to the University of Oregon earlier this month.  The Oregon staff was able to learn about Sydney, invite her to elite camps, and have some correspondence with her because she was an NSR prospect.  A member of the Oregon recently sent a note to Coach Stanger which read, “Thank you for your help in the recruiting process with Sydney.  She is a special player and we are thrilled she has chosen Oregon.”

The 5’4″ sophomore midfielder carries a 3.6 GPA and attends Perrydale High School in Perrydale, Oregon.  As a freshman she was named Player of the Year for Special District III.  Her high school coach’s evaluation includes, “Sydney has an amazing work ethic. She is relentless and is one of the fastest players on our squad. She is valuable in several positions on the field, is an excellent distributor and possesses phenomenal skills.”

In Sydney’s essay to college coaches she says, “I live for the game of soccer.  As much as I love soccer -my team is everything to me.  I pride myself in not only being the best I can be on the field but setting my teammates up to be the best they can be.  I feel I have a great sense of the game as well as excellent foot skills and enjoy using my speed and those skills to my advantage.  I am very aggressive and believe that my strong passing skills and ability to play a possession style game are benefit to my team’s success.”
