Get Scouted Scouting CareersJessica Slagus is a two-sport athlete from Belle Vernon High School in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, who specializes in field events. She has earned a 3.75 GPA and expects to major in Biology. Already nationally know in the javelin, Jessica is also a stellar hoops player having led her team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots as a junior last winter. Her NSR scouting report tauts her in both track and basketball. “Outstanding athlete no matter what sports she plays. Set school record for javelin (119’). Continues to break own javelin school record each year. Also throws the shot (33’) and the hammer. In basketball, very strong post player who plays well with her back to the basket. Strong enough to back girls into the basket. Good spin moves, fakes, reverse direction moves, and a RH hook that she can hit to the foul line. Physical rebounder. Quick, beats girls to the spot, boxes out well. Fearless. Good ball handling skills. Dribbles through the legs, crossovers. Good shot fakes. On defense, uses long arms and quickness to cut off passing lanes. Top rebounder. Anticipates well. Steals off the pass. Good communicator on the court. Excellent student in the classroom (3.8 GPA).” Her essay to college coaches, Jessica talks about the importance of leadership when she says, “College is something that is coming quickly. Patience, leadership, and teamwork are going to be big factors in succeeding at college and in the future. During college, patience is something that I will need to utilize greatly to achieve my current and future goals. I will utilize patience when mastering life at my new college, looking for a career, working with new people, and so much more. My leadership skills will be put to the test in life. Being a self-starter and taking initiative to complete assignments prior to the due dates take strong leadership skills. Also, if there is a group project, my leadership skills will shine. I will be able to collaborate and engage the entire group for the project. After graduation, leadership will become even more important when I am doing projects at work with many fellow employees. Leadership skills have a place in every aspect of life.”
