Get Scouted Scouting CareersOur Female Athlete of the Day is a volleyball setter with an impressive 3.8 GPA, Jacqueline Chirdo, from Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, New York. She plans to major in Business. Jacqueline comes to college coaches with a long list of accolades including being named First Team All-Ivy and NY Post First Team All-Brooklyn and chosen as her team’s captain. Her high school coach, Vanessa Ruck, has this to say about Jacqueline, “One cannot help but think that Jacquie Chirdo is the ideal student-athlete. She has strong grades and is involved in a plethora of extra activities. As for Jacquie’s athletics, she is highly impressive. Her passion, competitiveness, and love of sports seem to be a “deadly” combination. Jacquie has been a member of the varsity volleyball team since freshman year, and has been voted to the 1st team All-Ivy in 2010 and 2011, was the most valuable player for the same two consecutive years and is currently the team’s captain. She plays on an outside club volleyball team which takes up most of her time, but still manages to maintain superior grades in all her classes, AP’s included. Jacquie can be found, often giving updates about what is going on in Student Government as well as planning, and setting up fundraisers for charities or her school clubs. Her deans and peers recognize her commitment to her grade, as she is guaranteed time to make announcements during chapels and homeroom. She is a born leader who puts 110% into everything she does. Whether it is sharing her knowledge in volleyball, dancing on the Poly stage or speaking to her peers, she is committed to contributing her numerous gifts, talents, and abilities to the Poly Prep Community.” In her essay to college coaches, Jacqueline says, “Being a setter is a natural position for me. It gives me the opportunity to use my leadership skills and intellect to support my teammates. I am a devoted, diligent and dynamic leader on the volleyball court. I support my fellow players and make sure they are given the perfect opportunities to score. I hope to gain more knowledge about the game in the future. Given the opportunity, I will prove to my college coach, whether in a game or at practice, that I am a dedicated player who will bring something unique to any volleyball program. I believe that my court vision, knowledge of the game and never quit attitude will be an asset to any team. I am very eager to play at the college level. My number one goal is to attend a top academic school with a great volleyball program. I have worked hard my entire school career, both on and off the court, maintaining a 3.8 GPA.” Her NSR scout is Dan Greco.
