Want to be popular? Tell college volleyball coaches you work with a sophomore who touches 10’1″.

The high 9’s would warrant 30 seconds of their time, but 10’1″? You will have their full attention for as long as you want it.

When a bunch of coaches get wind that there’s an Ohio kid whose head is over the net when she hits or blocks, it is on in a very big way. Count on it.

Brianna-Hollingshed

That’s what NSR scout Sheila Thiery runs into all the time when she is scouting a showcase tournament. She can barely walk by a D-I coach that he or she doesn’t buttonhole her to learn as much as they can about Brianna Hollingshed.

For starters, Brianna is six feet tall. That is somewhat short for a middle which is where she currently plays. But throw in the 10’1″ factor and, well, she will play somewhere in college and just leave it at that.

A stellar student, Hollingshed carries a 3.5 GPA at Pickerington North High School in Pickerington, Ohio. When we ask NSR prospects to write a short essay about themselves, we seldom receive one from such a young student-athlete as thoughtful as Brianna’s.

“My obsession with volleyball comes with my love for learning new topics and subjects. Learning new materials is fascinating, it helps you see the world in a different way. School opens up doors for student-athletes like me to pursue their goals. My personal goal is to play volleyball at the college level and possibly higher! I am extremely determined to push myself in volleyball, and especially in my studies,” Brianna explained.

Coach Thiery describes Hollingshed as “extremely athletic and explosive.” A scout who covers a variety of sports, Theiry is also NSR’s volleyball co-director, so she know what she is talking about in handing out info about Brianna.

“After a few short years of playing she is becoming a breakout player and getting attention from top programs. She has excellent hang-time and vertical, a live arm and swings with power, has good body control and awareness at the net. She’s a quick learner and smart player, coachable with fun personality, swift and smooth off one foot. Plays with high game IQ and can identify opponents weaknesses and use it to her team’s advantage. Brianna performs well under pressure and does not allow the environment to affect her game. Plays with high intensity and energy. Is a supportive and motivating type of teammate. This young lady will be an asset to a big program. This past club season her team won 3rd Place in Gold and USAV Nationals. Comes from a wonderful family and large following!” Thiery writes in her NSR scouting report.
