Andrea Olsen

We are proud to select as our Female Athlete of the Day Andrea Olsen, a 5’4″ guard from East Troy High School in East Troy, Wisconsin.  She carries a 3.7 GPA and plans a Business major in college.  Following her junior season, Andrea captured 2nd-Team Rock Valley All-Conference, 2nd-Team Walworth All-County and Defensive Player of the Year (East Troy H.S.) honors.  Her team advanced to the WIAA Division 3 State Tournament semifinal round with a 24-3 record.  Her NSR scout is Jason Lauren (Southeast Wisconsin).  In his scouting report, Jason says, “Top role was to shut down opponent’s top scoring guard or point guard. Solid at keeping opponent in front of her. When opponent gets by her, she recovers quickly. Good hands. Gets a lot of steals and deflections (2.8 steals per game as junior). Aggressive and physical on defense. Tough. Quick, especially with the ball when dribbling up court. Pushes ball up court quickly with very good court vision. Eyes are up court when receives ball in transition. Excels at making long passes. Uses quickness to get down court first on transition, which leads to layups. Hustles constantly. Hard worker. Good ballhandler, but working on to improve. Quick crossover. Working on going between legs and behind back. Right-handed, but actually drives to left better after earning a lot of playing time playing 3-position on the left side. Gets a lot of fastbreak points. Most jumpers are off the pass. Uses screens well to get open.”  In an essay to college coaches, Andrea says, “Part of the motivation behind my work ethic comes from the fact that I know I must have ideal grades in order to play in both high school and college. Another reason I love basketball so much is that it has helped me to develop leadership skills, improve my communication with others and gain confidence.  Basketball has been a great place for me to work on becoming a leader and to work on my communication skills. In a school setting, people know me as being more reserved, but when it comes to playing basketball, I am more assertive.”
