Sooner Star Hammers Three Homers Against ’09 World Series MVP

Former NSR softball prospect and 2009 NFCA All-American at Oklahoma University, Amber Flores, gave the Sooners an early 1-0 lead over defending national champion Washington in the first game of the NCAA Super Regional best two-of-three series played in Seattle Thursday.  It was the first of her record-setting three homeruns against Husky starter and 2009 NCAA Softball World Series MVP, Danielle Lawrie.  The three homers were a first-ever for an Oklahoma player in a single game as the Sooners took down the No. 3 seed Huskies, 6-1, in front of a sold-out 1,662 at Husky Softball Stadium.  

Amber has put together a Hall-of-Fame-type career at OU.  Her lengthy and impressive softball resume reads more like a team’s list of honors than that of an individual’s:  career three-time All-Big 12 performer, two-time All-American, five-time Big 12 Player of the Week honoree,  Oklahoma career record for walks drawn (120), slugging percentage (.701) and on-base percentage (.518), ranks second on the career list for batting average (.373), fourth in home runs (41), sixth in runs scored (168), seventh in total bases (344) and ninth in runs batted in (145).  In 2009 and 2010, Amber was a top 10 finalist for USA Softball’s Collegiate Player of the Year, NFCA first team All-Central Region, Big 12 Player of the Year, All-Big 12 first team, Big 12 Player of the Week, Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week and Co-Player of the Week by USA Softball on Feb. 10.
