Get Scouted Scouting CareersTrack and field can be a lonely sport. Success depends on natural talent, work ethic, competitive drive and determination.
National Scouting Report prospect Annie Carlson, a senior from Westmont High School in Westmont, Ill., has all of those qualities, and she has parlayed her considerable talent and accomplishments into a college scholarship.
The Colorado State University signee has been at the top of her game throughout her high school career. Andrew Novelli, NSR’s National Track/Cross Country Director and Chicagoland’s Area Director, said it best.
“Annie is an amazing athlete,” he exclaimed. “She took second at the 1A Illinois High School Association State Meet last spring in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles while also earning third in the triple jump and seventh in the 200 meter dash.”
But that’s not all.
“At the 2015 IHSA State meet, I was the only competitor from my school and earned enough points to place Westmont High School sixth out of 69 competitors and ahead of all the other schools in my conference,” Annie said.
It was a performance that did not go unnoticed. The online site, mySuburbanLife.com, profiled Annie following her extraordinary state meet performance.
“When Annie Carlson left the state meet on May 23, she could be identified by the distinct sound of medals clanging against each other. After all, Carlson had four of them around her neck at the end of a busy day at Eastern Illinois University for the Westmont junior. Carlson will graduate next year as the most decorated girls track athlete for Westmont with six all-state medals. She also currently holds the school outdoor track records in the 100 and 300 hurdles, the 200 dash and the triple jump,” the article said.
In Colorado State’s press release announcing Annie’s signing, assistant coach Ryan Bailey called her “a multi-event athlete with many impressive accomplishments.” He went on to say: “Annie is an all-around athlete who has proven to be successful in multiple sports. She is a phenomenal student and a very competitive person. We are very excited to have Annie as a member of our team.”
During her junior season at Westmont, Annie posted personal best times in the 100-meter hurdles (15.03), 200-meter dash (25.8), 300-meter hurdles (44.57) and triple jump (36’6″).
Annie is also quite a basketball player. She has twice been named MVP of Westmont’s team. On top of that, she is a dedicated student and volunteer.
“Academically I always challenge myself by committing to an AP dominated curriculum. Throughout my high school career, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA while also scoring a 31 on my ACT,” Annie said proudly. “I am a member of the marching and symphonic band, geography club, and Sentinel Buddies, a group in which I spend time interacting with the special education students in my school.”
