Get Scouted Scouting CareersJack Chambers is the total package.
A 6-foot-4 junior shooting guard for the Oconee High School basketball team in Dublin, Ga., Chambers averaged more than 10 points per game last season while hitting 53 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc. He also averaged seven rebounds, two assists and one block per game.
In addition, Chambers sports a 3.6 grade-point average in the classroom.
That was more than enough to impress Mike Ewing, National Scouting Report’s North Georgia Area Director.
“Jack is very athletic, has a very good mid-range jumper and can step out and drain the 3-point shot,” Ewing said. “He can put the ball on the floor and go to the left or right. He is a strong finisher at the rim, an excellent passer and takes pride in helping his teammates score. He is an excellent rebounder, too. Defensively, Jack is quick and can guard most twos and he is long enough to guard most threes. Finally, as a student with a 3.6 GPA, and taking a rigorous course load, Jack presents a very attractive package for college coaches.”
Chambers, a 2017 NSR prospect, certainly has his priorities in order.
“Ever since I was a little kid, playing basketball at the collegiate level was a goal for me, but also having a good education is very important to me,” he wrote in his personal message to college coaches. “I am looking for a college where I can compete for a basketball program and also get a good education.”
Sports are not Chambers’ whole focus in life. In addition to playing basketball and soccer in high school, he’s an active volunteer in his community, something college admissions departments love to see when considering applications.
“Other than playing basketball and soccer for the school, I also participate in Coaches vs. Cancer and I read to elementary school kids,” Chambers said proudly. “I also like to bike, fly planes and attend youth group at church.”
That’s why he’s the total package.
