Kailene Young (in black)

Named her team’s Offensive Player of the Year, Kailene Young from Shawano Community High School in Shawano, Wisconsin, is our Female Athlete of the Day.  With plans to become a teacher, she carries a 3.1 GPA. Her high school says of her, “Kailene exhibits the true heart of a volleyball player.  She encompasses the sport with her whole being as she brings determination, drive, and dedication every time she steps on the court, in the weight room, or into a speed/agility/plyometric workout.  She has the willingness to put in the extra effort, time, and open-mind to become the best volleyball player she can be.  Kailene is the kind of an athlete every coach wants on their team.  She is an enthusiastic learner, a determined athlete and a positive team player who attcks her game with the same spirit and power she attacks the ball.  As she grows in her abilities, I expect Kailene to become a positive leader on and off the court.”  To college coaches, Kailene expresses her dreams by saying, “To play college volleyball would be a dream come true and I am determined to make my dream a reality.  On and off the court I give it my all and I try to maintain a positive attitude no matter what the situation.  I put my heart out on the court and do my part to make the team work as one unit.  I’ve played volleyball with many different teams year round.  During my free time you will almost always see a volleyball in my hands.  I am always looking for ways to improve my volleyball skills and strive to do better on every ball that comes my way.  I am always willing to try new things no matter how difficult it may seem.
