Katie has been a team captain for three years and carries a 3.75 GPA. She plays club volleyball for the CSRA Heat 18 Gold Clubteam. She earned her high school team’s Best All-Around award in 2011 and led the team to the 2011 Georgia Area 3-AAA Regional Volleyball Championship for a second straight year. Coach Amy Slagle says of her, “Katie Hagins is a great setter as well as a great leader on the floor. Her commitment to the team and her abilities never fails to amaze me as she continues to grow in volleyball. Katie is calm at all times even when the pressure is great which allows her to make good decisions even in the toughest situations. She has a tough serve and even adds a few attacks to the offensive side of the game. She would be the perfect candidate for the next level because of all of these things as well as being one of the most coachable young ladies on the court.” Her scouting report reads, “Katie can “spot on” place the ball into the hands of the hottest hitter and has the uncanny ability to know who that hitter is and exactly where she is on the court. Katie’s serves are consistent and she is able to hold serve for long stretches. She was moved to outside hitter to help her team in 2011, but will probably be a setter in college.” Addressing college coaches in her essay, Katie says, “I enjoy the challenge and responsibility of keeping my teammates motivated and working together. My first year playing varsity I helped lead my team to win the region championships and then to the second round of state playoffs. My main position on my high-school team and travel team is setter. However, I am very versatile because at 5 ft. 10 in., I am able to hit well and block. It is very hard to intimidate me on the court, and I thrive on doing well for my team. Another strong point in my game is my serve. I have a very tough standing serve and a good jump serve. Playing volleyball is year-round for me, and I love every minute of it.”
