Get Scouted Scouting CareersThey obviously grow ’em big and smart, too, in Texas as is the case with our Male Athlete of the Day, Daren Satsky, a 6’5″, 295-pound offensive lineman from Boerne High School. The senior who was this year named one of his team’s captains, gathered a group of honors following his junior season being named All-District, Academic All-District and to the Dave Campbell’s “One-to-Watch” list. He has earned a hefty 3.7j GPA and plans to major in broadcast journalism in college. His NSR scout, Greg Hurd, describes Daren this way: “Daren is an anchor in the offensive line. He has played left tackle and moved to center when needed. His football acumen is huge, calling all the offensive line sets. At 6’5” and 295 pounds, he has an unlimited upside. He dedicated himself to football after his sophomore year and used his basketball skills to develop quick hands, great footwork, and a constant motor that keeps him in contact with defensive players. He is driven to succeed and overpowers opponents. Daren has a great football IQ and is constantly pushing himself to improve. Daren participates in power lifting to improve his overall strength where he can squat over 400, benches 315, and and is working hard to increase his strength. His leadership as a team captain is evident both on and off the field, engaging others to build a team of cohesive and dedicated athletes. His willingness to move to center from left tackle and his success at the position is indicative of his coachability and more importantly his desire to succeed and do whatever it takes to do so. Daren’s desire to play at the next level, his dedication to do whatever it takes to do so and his outstanding leadership abilities make him an athlete that will make a difference.” In his essay to college coaches, Daren says, “I began to bulk up during my high school years and I developed the body of a typical offensive lineman. Although I am now only focused on football, all those years of playing basketball made me a sizeable lineman with ‘good feet’. I have seen the schedule of a college football player and recognize the level of commitment required to excel at the game and at academics. I know that I have been blessed with the capability to juggle the demands of both and to succeed. As I close this chapter of my life, I look forward to what will be written next.”
