We are pleased to present our Male Athlete of the Day honor to Griff Garner from Oak Grove High School in Bessemer, Alabama. The 5’11” point guard carries a 3.2 GPA. He is described by his coach, Alex Dillard, who says, “I have coached Griff for 5 travel ball seasons. He has been one of the most coachable players I have ever worked with. Coachable meaning he listens and executes my orders, gives me everything he’s got, he wants to learn more about the game and strategy. He has become a better basketball player and teammate every year that he has played for me. As a person he is one of the nicest, most respectful young men I have ever met! Griff will succeed in anything and eveything he puts his mind and heart into. Also has a great family base that will keep him focused and grounded.” To college coaches, Griff says in his personal essay, “My strengths are that I am a great leader, my teammates trust and respect me and I have an aggressive inside game. I am very proud of the success I have achieved at the free throw line and the skills I exhibit as a ball handler and shooter. I work extremely hard and take great pride in my defensive skills because I believe that defense wins ballgames. Basketball is what I love and it is what I believe I excell in, but I also believe my best is still to come.”
