Thomas Sydeski’s Summer Adventure an Extraordinary Experience

Thomas Sydeski stands alongside NFL All-Pro QB Peyton Manning during a passing drill.

What more could a kid want?  Being accepted to attend the Manning Passing Academy must be a heady accomplishment to begin with, but then add having the unbelievable chance to stand alongside Peyton Manning himself during a workout session.  That’s what NSR quarterback prospect Thomas Sydeski did this summer.  Think his feet have touched the ground yet?  Probably not.

Make no mistake, Thomas is a legit college prospect.  At 6’4″ and 180 pounds, the rising junior quarterback from Brockport High in Brockport, New York, has the size and tools to drawn attention, but Thomas was hungry for more.  He wanted desperately to learn from the best, so he gave it his best shot by applying to the Manning Passing Academy held from July 7 through 10 on the campus of Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

The camp attracts some of America’s top high school skill players — quarterbacks, tight ends, running backs and wide receivers.   The Academy and event are overseen by the Manning family who supervises a staff of more than 80 assistants.  The Academy’s online site says that “The coaching and counseling staff are further complemented with successful college and high school coaches from across the nation as well as outstanding college players from top programs including Alabama, Auburn, Dartmouth, Florida, Georgia, Harvard, Jackson State, Kentucky, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Nicholls State, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Oregon State, South Carolina, Southern Miss, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, Tulane, ULL and more.”  Impressive stuff, to say the least.

Thomas got what he went for and more.  We asked Thomas, one of NSR’s top ’13 QB prospects, to share his experiences with us and received this note in return:  “The Manning Passing Academy was the highlight of my summer. I was afforded the opportunity to not only get first hand instruction from the Manning family but also from some of the best college players and coaches such as Jordan Jefferson (LSU), Andrew Luck (Stanford), Kellen Moore (BSU), former NSR Prospect Landry Jones (OU), as well as Coach Dave Shula and Coach John Gruden. My favorite memory from the camp was being chased down by Coach Gruden in a scrambling drill, he’s fast! I am looking forward to further developing the skills I learned from camp and applying them this season. I’d highly recommend the Manning Passing Academy to any quarterback as well as receivers and backs looking to better their game. You will see me there next summer for sure.”
