Ashton Jenne drives nearly an hour each way to the Baylor School in Cleveland, Tenn.

The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tenn., is not only one of the state’s premier academic institutions, it also has a storied athletic history. Over the years, the small private school located on the banks of the Tennessee River has captured more state titles than almost any other high school in Tennessee.

National Scouting Report tennis prospect Ashton Jenne is another in a long line of Baylor standouts. The well-rounded  junior is making an indelible mark on the school academically, athletically and in the music department as well.

Jenne has stacked up a plethora of honors on the court.  In 2015, she was named the Most Athletic and Hard Worker Award at the Chris Evert Tennis Camp; helped her team win its third consecutive Tennessee high school state championship as the team’s No. 2 singles player; and was selected Best of Preps by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

In the classroom, Jenne has been equally successful.  She carries a 4.056 GPA, scored an impressive 29 on the ACT , is a member of Baylor’s Honor Council, the National Honor Society and in 2015 became an Abshire Scholar recipient. Additionally, she is the Concert Master for the school’s orchestra.

NSR scout Mark Dodd couldn’t say enough about Jenne’s tennis ability.

“Ashton’s main weapon is her forehand,” Dodd wrote in his NSR scouting report. “She is always looking to move forward and attack short balls, so that she can finish the points at the net. She has a consistent two-handed backhand and slice backhand as well. Her serve is above average and she uses her reach and legs well. Ashton has a high tennis IQ and because she is athletic, she has a good defensive game. At the net she is fearless and has soft hands. Ashton is just realizing her potential on the court and can’t wait to get with the right coach to continue her development.”

Jenne is starting to receive lots of attention from college coaches.

“She just went from a 2-star player to a 3-star player this spring, so I expect more schools to start contacting her,” Dodd said. “Her dedication is inspiring. Heading into spring break, she told her parents that she didn’t have time for vacation, because she needed to stay home and train to get her game better.  I love Ashton and if I was still coaching, she is the type of player that I would want to start a with.”

Jenne, a straight-A student, plans to major in Pre-Medicine in college.

In her personal message to college coaches, Jenne explains her love of tennis and dedication to academics.

“I have been playing tennis for five years.  I play and compete because I love it,” she wrote.  I chose to attend the Baylor School for its high academic standards and its great tennis team and program. In order to attend Baylor, I drive 50 minutes from home to school every day. I maintain all A’s in class, taking AP and Honors courses, and I practice two to three hours a day with my tennis team at school.

“As my coaches will tell you, I work extremely hard, and because I have played on my school team since I started, I know how to and love to compete in a team environment. Lastly, I firmly believe that I am not even close to my full potential and will continue to improve.”
