The behind-the-scenes antics of the Fiesta Bowl’s CEO John Junker and his cronies led to the Junker Man’s firing and a fine of one million dollars on the Fiesta Bowl by the BCS.  But, the Fiesta Bowl lives on in the BCS.  So, the question begs to be answered, “Why?”  Of course, it’s about money.  That’s a given.  Yet, there could be another far reaching reason the Fiesta Bowl got the ruler-slap-on-the-hand treatment instead of a short term suspension or an altogether expulsion from the BCS bosses which had the power to do either.  How about this:  is the BCS trying to protect their other bowls from scrutiny by glossing over the Fiesta problem with what might on the surface appear to be stern punishment?  Hmmm.  A million dollars to a bowl, that is a major bowl, is chump change when considering the money which goes through its hands during the lifetime of a TV contract.  You can count on this — there are investigative sports reporters digging around in garbage cans as we speak trying to uncover the next big bowl bust.  And with just over 30 bowls currently in existence, what do you think are the chances that other bowl CEO’s like Sir Junker have been taking a few trips, or throwing a few parties, or giving gifts to more than a few well-connected folks who might potentially influence their schools’ teams landing in their televised games?  Just asking.
