All this past weekend, college champions in the NCAA and NAIA were crowned on campuses and in sports facilities across America.  In particular, NCAA DII deserves accolades for their Division II National Championships Fall Festival which took place in Louisville, KY.  The DII Festival is a superb idea which has been going on for a number of years.  Both fall and spring DII sports have a championship festival and from all accounts, the events are well organized and handled nicely for everyone involved.  All-America teams and National Players and Coaches of the Year are announced and honored in banquet ceremonies where large groups of college players, coaches and fans from across the country can attend.  Few things could be better for these deserving student-athletes in women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country and women’s field hockey.  Over the weekend, too, other NCAA as well as NAIA champions were crowned, most notably women’s DI soccer in Cary, NC, and men’s DI water polo in Berkeley, CA, DIII men’s and women’s cross country at Wartburg College (IA), men’s and women’s DIII soccer in San Antonio, TX, and NAIA women’s volleyball (Sioux City, IA) men’s (Orange Beach, AL) and women’s soccer (Decatur, AL).  For the hard core college sports fan, it was a dream come true to have so many quality athletic events happening over four glorious days of top-notch competition.
